my studio based practice departs from a sculptural way of building  installations
as a relational space,
a system where unpredicted dialogues happen in interdependency between

architecture
objects
and bodies
creating layers of meaning
where everything alters and interrelates with each other
being the instability of narratives
the structure of it.

For her solo project at P/////AKT Nora Aurrekoetxea Etxebarria (Bilbao, 1989) is presenting an experimentation with the material and formal properties of airbeds, reflecting on the temporality of the domestic object and the choreography implicated in its usage. This choreography also extends to the bodies that interface with the object, relating to the ephemeral shape that a body assumes in relationship with the furniture that hosts it.
The matrasses, rolled up to fit a wooden support structure to contain their form, are casted in order to present their inside surface as a shape and as a space: in between the mattress and the body that lies on it; folding and unfolding, air moving in and moving out.

Aurrekoetxea is a current resident at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten. She graduated in Fine Arts from the University of the Basque Country ( 2013 ) and completed her MA Sculpture at the Royal College of Art in London (2019). In parallel she studied a postgraduate course in Sexology at Incisex, Madrid (2013) and is a cofounder of artist-run space OKELA in Bilbao.
