Dear all,
Many of you might already have seen the sad news concerning our situation on social media. The future of P/////AKT is at stake.
Despite their committee’s positive advice, which includes a proposed increase of our current budget – in respect to a new and bigger location that the city itself has allocated to us – the AFK has unfortunately decided to grant us nothing at all. On top of the Mondriaan Fund’s earlier rejection it is completely devastating.
Amsterdam has stated that the position of and opportunities for the ‘makers’ should be improved, while the organizations that are crucial for these ‘makers’ – for their research, experiments, production, visibility and future possibilities – seem to be hit the hardest. And that will affect the entire cultural climate. This is not a disaster waiting to happen. This is happening now. We are calling on Politicians, Policymakers and Funds to start with reparations very very soon! If not, the damage is irreparable.
Many of you have already asked us what you can do to help. We are currently working on a joint campaign in collaboration with a number of our colleagues who also find themselves in serious trouble and will call on you to support and share that. More news will follow in the second half of September.
In the meantime your support is more than welcome! For instance by writing us a short statement on your own experience with P/////AKT and/or the position we fulfil when it comes to supporting talented artists in terms of development, production and presentation and thereby supporting the entire field. And if you feel inclined to make a donation we will put it to good use for our program from 2025:
Because we would love to continue, and therefore happy and very grateful to announce that the following artists have already let us know that they are committed to be working with us , and together make a beautiful program based on our dedication, our time and a minimal budget coming from our reserves. They are: Jivan van der Ende, David Grønlykke, Clémence Lollia Hillaire, Pieter Laurens Mol, Raffaele Pola and Stéphanie Saadé.
